In the washroom at school, over soapy hands, a colleague asked if I had any exciting plans for winter break—traveling anywhere, doing anything thrilling.
“No. Nothing exciting. No. Not going anywhere.”
I watched the temperatures drop. Drop. Drop. And with them, my enthusiasm for anything beyond crawling into a warm, cozy cave with a hot cup of tea was left in that very cold.
So, what’s exciting
But in this frigid reality, I’m starting to redefine “exciting.”
Sleeping in? Exciting.
Enjoying two slow, uninterrupted cups of coffee instead of rushing out the door? Exciting.
Lunch at my beautiful, sunlit kitchen island? Exciting.
A midday nap? Oh, absolutely exciting.
Not having a single person ask for something or roll their eyes at me? So. Darn. Exciting.
Choosing to stay inside simply because I can? Really exciting.
Cocktails in the afternoon if I feel like it? Extremely exciting.
Opportunity
And beyond the comforts of slowing down, time off from school means I can pour energy into things I truly love—working on my blog, crafting social media posts, and making notes on Wolfe’s Blood, the final book in the Shepherd and Wolfe series. I can catch up to where David is in the draft and make progress on my own projects. A week isn’t long, but the gift of time for the things that fuel me I see as an opportunity and I don’t take that for granted.
This break is a reminder that I don’t have to jet off somewhere to enjoy time off. Rest, creativity, and space to breathe—those are gifts in themselves.
And with that, I’m off to do work I love.
As always, thank you for reading, Lovelies.
LOVE IT!!
