I donated My List My Rules: The Year a Checklist Changed My Life and left a handwritten letter inside for the reader. I hope the novelty of a handwritten letter lands well. Here’s what I wrote:
Dearest Reader:
Do you believe in destiny? Do you believe in magic? Maybe you believe in cozy Sundays and hot tea or maybe it’s a double shot of tequila you believe in (with or without the lemon chaser) or a solid 9-ounce glass of Cab Sav. I believe in all of those things because, well, life is short and it should be fun!
What I don’t believe is that things happen by accident. And, I do believe that the randomness of this sweet life isn’t so random. Things and people land right in front of us as they need to and as we need them to.
This story, My List, My Rules: The Year a Checklist Changed My Life is my proof (at least to me) that a random year (my 42nd) gave my goofy and well-meaning soul an exercise in adventure, patience, and self-compassion. It also gave me a mini-lesson in arithmetic. When you read it you’ll get the comment about math.
So, this book landed in your lap. Congratulations.
My hopes for you as you read this book
Maybe you are finding your way back to you. Maybe the book is just a book. But dear reader maybe, just maybe there is something magical in this little story that you will hold in your hands. Maybe you can relate to finding the child inside or having a prayer heard. Maybe you’ve mastered the f-word. Maybe you’re also on a journey. Perhaps you’ve just finished one. But, in any case, I hope that by the end of this book, you have laughed. Honestly, I hope at some point you snort-laugh. Those are the best kind.
I hope that you find the distraction that you need when you turn the pages, that you are entertained, and that at some point, you just close the book and think about what you’ve read. I hope that you are prompted to consider where you put your love and your energy.
My biggest hope is that between the have to’s and the must-do’s of your day-to-day you find the inspiration to make a list of your own of one or two or three or a thousand things that will stoke the fire in your soul, that will remind you what you need, what you want and make you grateful for what you have.
I hope that when you are done you feel like you have been given a literary hug. I hope that you feel good watching from the sidelines what this lady, Angie, did and how it all played out for her and maybe you can relate.
I hope that whether you are plowing through your life like the superstar that you are (whether you know it or not) or you are just taking life one step at a time—one day at a time–bravely falling forward I hope you, at the very least, are inspired and entertained.
I’ve been told parts of this book are a little like sitting down with a friend and a cup of coffee (or a friend and a glass of wine or a friend and a shot of tequila (or a double)—depending on the part of the book you are reading —). And, by the end of this book, when you are done I hope this is true and that you feel the same.
My final hope
My last hope is that wherever this book lands it makes a difference to somebody. Maybe that someone is you.
With light and love,
Angie Counios
As always, thank you for reading Lovelies.
